The sixth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup took place on one of the most beautiful, or even the best and most loved tracks by the drivers: Spa-Francorchamps. Run as a support race for the Belgian Grand Prix, the Belgian meeting is always a bravura piece of work for the competitors, as this track offers all possible combinations of curves to highlight the talent of the drivers.

As a local tradition, Belgium was not exempted from the bad weather, but it was much more moderate than last year, when only the rain came to disturb the first free practice on Friday. The rest of the weekend was more pleasant, with good weather on Sunday.

Mateu continues his glorious run on the podium

The free practice session started with a very low cloud ceiling, gloomy weather and precarious grip on a greasy tarmac, with the Porsches cutting through the darkness of the circuit with their headlights on. And the off-track excursions were to multiply as the session continued, with Clément Mateu concentrating on evaluating the settings of his car in an attempt to set a reference time. Halfway through the session, the wipers are activated on the windscreens, the drivers tried to stay on track.

The qualifying session will take place in better conditions, but this will not stop some of them to end their session in the gravel. For the Montpellier driver, the track conditions are better as well as the timing and the driveability. Clément Mateu will secure a third place on the starting grid in his Pro/Am category, which leaves good hopes for the race.

Race day will be the hottest day of the weekend, which will allow the drivers to show their full potential on track. Some of them a little bit too much, some of them widen their lines to the point of biting the dust, to better bring it back to the track, others can't avoid shooting straight into the chicane when it's not missed braking to better eliminate their opponents.

Clément Mateu will get through all these traps, to run his race as he should by managing to overtake the championship leader in points! With a strong race pace, but a gap to close on the future winner of the race, the HEXIS manager signs a very nice second place, another podium this season, the sixth one on all the rounds contested in 2022. In this way, he was able to recover a few points to get closer to the top of the drivers' ranking.

"It was another very satisfying weekend and we are continuing to build on our success this season. As usual, the weather at Spa disrupted the first session. It went much better in qualifying, I was able to set a good time which qualified me in third position in Pro/Am. In the race, I made a great start to pass Lindland, my direct opponent in the championship. The leader Mason had a much better pace than me in the race, I couldn't catch him, but I managed to hold off my rivals and finished on the podium again. It's not a win yet this season, but it's satisfying to keep getting podiums. We know that we still lack a little bit of speed to be better, we continue to produce our efforts to do better and better. I'm closing the gap on Lindland in the championship and we'll see you in Zandvoort.”
