Clément Mateu started his season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Imola during the Emilia Romagna F1 Grand Prix with a pole position and a podium!
Heavy rain but a podium for Clement Mateu
The 2022 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season started in Italy, on the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola! And it was the rain that came to spice up the race weekend. Nothing to distract Clement Mateu, who drove like a rain master.
The Montpellier native started free practice with a good pace and got into the right conditions by being in the rhythm of the leading trio, a good dynamic for the rest of the weekend. And Clément Mateu will confirm with the pole position of the Pro/Am category.
Sunday's race was like the rest of the meeting: rainy! A slightly delayed start, the Safety Car taking its safety conditions to lead the pack, and here are the thirty Porsches racing on the Imola circuit totally soaked!
Clément Mateu led most of the race in the Pro/Am category, avoiding all driving errors of these precarious grip conditions, although some drivers will crash out the track.
Despite a solid defense for three quarters of the race distance, one of his opponents managed to pass him to take the victory. A second driver also passed him on the last lap, but the latter was penalized by the stewards, which put Clement Mateu back in second place in this race.
"For this beginning of the season, I have made for the first time the best laptime of the qualifications, which is a real satisfaction. And it's also good to come back from Imola with the points for second place, despite the weather conditions. I am still a bit disappointed because there is no first place at the end. But I'm still in the same frame of mind as I was at the beginning of the season, we're going to continue to work to get what we need in terms of performance. In the end, it's still a great weekend and I'm happy to have joined CLRT for this 2022 season."
